Digital History Wall Panels

When MCC moved into its current office space in late 2015 it installed a history wall environmental graphic to motivate staff and remind them of the importance of its mission to reduce global poverty. After 10 years, there was no more room in the physical space allotted for the installation, so MCC decided to use large monitors to display history wall panels from 2019 forward.

The Challenge

  • Take 10 years of physical design standards and consistency and translate it into a digital presentation;
  • Adapt the physical design concepts into a digital presentation that allows for motion and a more immersive experience;
  • Maintain the environmental graphic aspect of the presentation so that the visuals are engaging but not disruptive to the space it occupies;
  • Build in design flexibility and potential for evolution in the digital design concept as new panels are created year after year; and
  • Keep each year’s presentation short enough to keep the overall display interesting, but long enough to engage a person to stay and watch and to learn from the presentation.

The Solution

  • Adapt the three-story structure of the existing panels by highlighting a significant event or milestone in that year, a story of a beneficiary of one of MCC’s programs and an impactful moment or product from that year;
  • Include any programs signed in that year; and
  • Present as a roughly two minute video vignette with an overview screen showing the spotlight, story and impact elements with a detail screen for each using motion graphics, video and kinetic text.
